Hi,
I saw the thread over on bcUK, and the term 'micro-adventure' tempted me very much. I do wonder now though, what do you have in mind? When is something a micro-adventure and not a walk after dinner? Or is a walk after dinner a micro-adventure too? I do think that it is a great idea to make something good out of all the litte opportunities one gets.

A great question, here's how I see it:
a micro adventure is an adventure - it's somewhere new or by a different means ie rock climb up lochnagar rather than walking up. Exploring that woodland just a few miles away that you've never been to - maybe cycle there, round it and back home.
a micro adventure is a challenge or testing - there should be something challenging about it, whether it's the physical challenge of a long through walk, climbing at your limit or carrying a bike through a boulder field to the great tracks on the other side. It can be the mental challenge of continuing for two days in pouring rain, difficult navigation through a winter storm or dealing with loneliness on a cold night on the hills.
a micro adventure is fun - maybe not at the time but you'll look back and be glad you did it.
Most importantly you can have an micro adventure whenever you have free time. You can do it if you've got a full time job and a family.
That's how I see it, would be good to hear what other people think a micro adventure is . . .

I really like the mind-set of that. You can do something new and exciting every day, and I have to remember that.

Two Socks I don't think the definition matters too much - it's mostly just a way of bringing together people who do this sort of stuff... I think it can vary from a full moon walk after dinner (eg www.alastairhumphreys.com/a-moon-walk/) up to travelling the length of the Shetlands (http://www.alastairhumphreys.com/microadventures-3/microadventure-islands/) or swimming a river (http://www.alastairhumphreys.com/microadventures-3/river-swim/). Enjoy yours, whatever they are!
