Hi, Hat do you take on you adventures to eat? I constantly get bored with the same food. This site has a lot of good ideas that I'll try. www.trailcooking.com/Stu

I try not to eat any of my hats, but you never know, someday conditions might require it! Myself, if I find something I really like to eat, I tend to stick with it, and maybe modify it in someway, (a little Tabasco often helps!).
Cheers for the link, I'll take a look.

Thanks for joining and posting!
I've found the following go with almost anything I cook up: fruit and nut mix cashew nuts peperami
Works well with pasta/noodle/rice etc. or maybe I'm just starving by the time I cook up.

I guess a little lemon, ginger, garlic and chilli all mixed together in a small bag wouldn't weigh too much and would probably liven up most things!

Ever tried the drinking straw container for spices etc?
Take a drinking straw, seal one end using a flame, put in your spices etc, seal the other with a flame. Then cut off the end when you want to use the spices and re-seal as before if required.
Some people worry about the toxins when sealing it so you could seal with a piece of duct tape instead.

I'm kind of partial to the boil in bag rice and Indian curries. We have foil bagged tuna that I will add sometimes. Quick, easy and no mess to clean up. Breakfast will usually be quick oatmeal w/nuts, seeds and dried fruit thrown in. Some trail mix, granola bars or cookies to snack on in between meals. Most of my weekday micro adventures will usually span from around 6pm to 6am then I'm back to work. If its a quick overnight canoe trip there's usually a lunch or 2 thrown in as well. If that's the case I'll add a slab of cheese, kielbasa, peanut butter, honey & some pita breads. Simple, quick and easy.

I was totaly expecting a journey on the underground not inner tubes! haha
A couple of friends of mine decided to go down a river on home made inflatable vessels: - one was an inflatable double bed with a kids tent on top in the shape of a dog. - the other was a pink inflatable castle ball pit with 3 lilos duct taped to the bottom!
They took around 9 hours to complete their journey, drank too much beer, eat too little food and ended up in the local newspaper and being told off by the police for drinking in public!

I love the idea of taking quality food along and making the dinner a special event. If I can ever get any of my local friends to come along on one of my overnights (they all thinks I'm crazy) I would definetly give that a try. When you have a group who can share the load it would really be nice. Most of my adventuresome friends live a distance away and we find it tough just to come together for a weekend or two a years for a wilderness paddle. The mid week microadventures find me heading out solo.

I always end up with those bloomin cereal bars. I love them but the temptation is to eat too many. I'm one for oatcakes as well. I'm a fat S.O.B. so basically anything with a pile of calories is coming with me. If I'm going at a fair pace I tend to drink dyarolyte on the way if I'm at pace too. My last trip from Paisley to Lochgelly was fuelled with about a gallon of diarolyte blackcurrant (yes I sweat that heavily) and oatcakes, hummus and sweeties (I'm Scottish) as well as some badass polish style dried sausages.
