I bought one of these when it was on offer........for £20 it was more curiosity than any other reason. www.trekmates.co.uk/index.php?route=product/category&path=137Operates by pouring water over a heat pack, this causes a reaction to wherever the fecks in the wee pouch. Outer case, place pouch in it,add water. Insert inner metal tray with desired meal. I've only tried super noodles in it. As the song we now chant goes ' super noodles, food for heroes...... Pot noodles they're for zeros', usually after a few wee malts of course. With the noodles, you just need to add a wee bit of water, unlike cooking and having to submerge. Get the lid on and let it simmer away for about 10-15 minutes, works a treat. Ideal if cooking up in a tent/ enclosed area...even a gale force wind!!Eat straight from the case and it keeps it warm. Took it on my two microadventures, lightweight and compact enough. During transport it can be used to pack everything you need for a meal into its case. Next time I'm going for something different, maybe a wee Chicken Tikka. In theory, if your just heating something rather than cooking the results are ment to be even better (hotter). Cheers.

I've seen those on sale too and wondered how well they work. I might get for car camping with the other half.

I too have thought they look good but not been sure if they'd produce enough heat to cook properly, perhaps one should go on the 'to buy' list.

Looking at the price of the heat packs (even on sale) makes it look too expensive - my jetboil cost £32 but one 100g fuel canister lasted a week camping + 10 or more weekend trips at least!

Aye, not the most economical but for the occasional use its not to bad. You get wee credits everytime you buy so you do actually get some free to offset the cost. Think I've got enough credits to buy the cup. Ha. Might try cooking on the deck of my kayak. Would need something under it though as it does get hot.
