Hi all, Here's a few places to get free outdoors maps: Free Online OS Maps (UK)www.getamap.ordnancesurveyleisure.co.uk/Sign up for free. Create routes, save them, edit them etc. UK only. Free Online OS Maps 2 (UK) www.bing.com/maps/Choose Ordnance Survey from the drop down menu (automaticly on road). Again UK only. Best for just looking around. Finaly Open Street Map (Global) www.openstreetmap.org/#map=16/57.0412/-3.4526&layers=CFree opensource mapping. Choose 'cycle map' from the layers option to get contour lines. Sometimes has more than OS maps, sometimes missing things. Anyone can edit these maps. Global maps but sometimes hard to read compared to the likes of OS. HINT FOR ALL LINKS - the more you zoom in the more detail you get (OS will turn to 1:25k) however you migh not see enough area. Solution is to zoom into required detail and them zoom out using your browser settings (usualy by holding ctrl and scrolling out with the mouse). Enjoy, use, share, comment and provide other free mapping links. Stu

Much obliged! Someone also pointed me in the direction of 'where's the path', which gives you limited access to a continuous UK OS map, but allows you to have it side-by-side with Google Earth in the same page: wtp2.appspot.com/wheresthepath.htm

This one is also good. UK OS maps where you can create a gpx file. Distance and elevation gain and loss are also shown. maps.the-hug.net/
